This piece comes in a run of four and is in original vintage condition, with an interesting patina and original paintwork on various different parts. The design is reminiscent of the golden age of cinema ; especially as this set were salvaged from an old Art deco cinema building.
The design of these beech wooden cinema chairs is a typical combination of bentwood furniture production technology of the 1920s together with the trademark use of curves. Due to the elegance of it’s form and the quality craftmanship of these chairs, it is as charming now as they were a hundred years ago. The designer or producer of these chairs is unfortunately unknown but they are most likely to have been made by Thonet or the Kohn Company.
These cinema chairs are in vintage condition and would benefit from further restoration. All the wooden parts show some patina, markings, wear and tear or damage due to being used by cinema visitors for many years.
