ZipRocker at imm Cologne

‘Zipshape’ is a universal method that makes it possible to construct single curved panels from any plain material without molds. It consists of two individually slotted panels that interlock when bent to the predefined curvature.
Swiss studio schindlersalmerón has continued research with a group of students at the Fachschule für Holztechnik Hamburg (Hamburg school for timber technology). The research group compared Zipshape with conventional bending technology and managed to scale down the achievable minimal radius. The experiments were carried out with this example of a cantilevering rocking chair realized in walnut and cherry wood.Latest results of the ‘Zipshape’ research are on display at imm Cologne.
