Art Deco demilune sconces/wall lights, set of 4, silver plated, 1920`s ca, English

The composition of each light consists of a quality antique demilune silver plated shade attached to a metal base, the external sides flush to the wall. A decorative rope effect edge decoration to the rim finishes the design. They are all 4 matching and of similar size, but as a result of each one being individually handmade from antique dome warming server covers they present slight tiny variations in shape and subtle traces of the previous objects they came from such as tiny holes.   Each metal backplate has 2 holes to secure the sconce safely to the wall.   The new metal nickel E27 lamp holder sits inside the shade attached to the backplate. It carries a standard big screw light bulb E27 up to 100 Watts. At present fitted with Candle clear light bulbs of 25 Watts (as photographed), included in the price. These lights could take other bulb shapes for a different look.   The price here is for the set of 4 lights sold together, but the set could be split into 2 pairs. A pair alone is advertised on this site as item # 11276.   These set of 4 lights are all in very good condition for its age, with the antique patina preserved adding character. The metal shades are sound with minor age related wear & superficial marks, as expected for an antique piece in line with age & wear.   Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the sconces would be wrapped in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. Together they would easily fit into a box with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. The style was influenced by ideas and exotic imagery borrowed from Africa and Asia, but also from the Greek Revival style of the 19th Century. Art Deco embraced the new, epitomising optimism & celebration. The new streamline version of Neoclassical forms executed in luxury materials: silver, marble, rosewood, coromandel, chrome & crystal. In late 1920`s the style arrived in Britain at a time when grand hotels, cinemas, theatres and factories were being built in large numbers. It offered a slick of sophistication, glamour and `modern` design to everyone, far from the ornate eclecticism of the late 19th Century. Inspired by aerodynamic design, it emphasized curving forms, long horizontal lines, and sometimes nautical elements.
