The tubular cantilevered chair was originally designed by the famous Dutch modernist architect Mart Stam. It was presented for the first time to general public in Stam’s project of social housing at the Werkbund Die Wohnung in Stuttgart in 1927. Two years later Anton Lorenz gained the licence from Stam to produce this type of cantilevered chair and he started to produce them under his company Desta.
This tubular chair with armrests is generally attributed as Stam’s design but it was Anton Lorenz who modified the original design and added the armrests. This chair is particularly special due to a very subtle detail in the gentle sloped shape of the wooden handle bars; which is unusually for the production of these chairs of the time. The chair is in great vintage condition with some minor patina on the steel frame and some wear on the painted wooden parts.
