Lui5 Armchair

A classic of its kind, the wooden chair with cane seat serves as a point of reference for the Lui5 chairs: the traditional techniques used to make them are undertaken faithfully and with mastery, but the curved, soft forms of the original model leave space for simplified lines and crystallised forms that multiply in space to give this object an appealing, futuristic look.The name is a clear reference to the pentagonal form selected, which becomes the unit of measure of the structure and is obsessively repeated: from the cross-section of the legs to the construction of the panels forming the seat, back and armrests. For those who are not prepared to surrender softness and comfort, the Lui5 family is also available in an upholstered version.Details: mahogany structure, in open-pore, white-painted wood or in white gold; the seat of cane or padded. (small armchair).Born 1971 in Sion, Switzerland, Philippe Bestenheider has a degree in Architecture from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.He has worked for studios both in Switzerland and in the US.In the year 2000, he obtained a Masters degree in industrial design from the Domus Academy in Milan, where he later was invited to teach.From 2001 to 2006 he was Senior Designer in Patricia Urquiola’s office in Milan.In 2006 he is invited to take part to the Promosedia exhibit. In 2007 he opens his own studio, working between Switzerland and Milan.In June 2010 he receives the Italian national award for innovation “premio dei premi” for the chair Nanook he has designed for Moroso.He is designing for Moroso, Fratelli Boffi, Varaschin, Frag and Nilufar Gallery.
