Giancarlo Fassina was born in Milan, Italy in 1935. He studied architecture at the Politecnico University in Milan. After his graduation, he has worked for Artemide and many other companies in the field of industrial and lighting design.
Giancarlo Fassina was one of the leading figures of Italian avant-garde design of the 1970s and in 1980 he joined the anti-design movement called Radical. Fassina has received a respected Compasso D’oro award for his most celebrated design, Tolomeo series of lamps. Tolomeo series was designed with Michele De Lucchi.
