A good way to discover Design Academy Eindhoven is to visit yearly Graduation Galleries. The show presents work created by recent academy graduates which are on hand to talk with and to answer questions.
Today’s news, tomorrow’s textile.
Greetje van Tiem, one of the graduates, presents a project called InDruk that turns newspapers into yarn that can be woven into carpets, curtains and upholstery.
The front page of a newspaper yields no less than twenty metres of yarn, making it possible to transpose yesterday’s news into tangible memories in the form of a curtain or carpet. If you look closely, you will see here and there a word or a date. The newspaper can no longer be consulted but the memory remains.
