Hi there, I have a sleepomatic and the latex has finally given up on me. It was obviously molded to fit the sofa so no chance of getting a replacement.
Does anyone have advice about how to approach this?  I’d prefer to stick with latex but I’m struggling to find anywhere in the U.K. selling the egg box style foam and I think solid shaped latex would be a bit too firm. I’m not going to be too purist about this, it’s something that has been in everyday use since it was given to me.
Photos for the curious of how it looks stripped down starting with original condition

The back is constructed of 3 sections. The middle section isn’t too bad on the front

Side sections, the foam is taped in place. These sections are also melded to fit (see later picture)

Back section with cover off. Going to need some new webbing!

Back rest removed and views from the back. It was at this point that I realised all three sections are completely molded. I’m thinking maybe 2cm latex foam over shaped egg box foam?

There’s a reason the action on these is so smooth!  Look at the bearings, still shiny after nearly 70 years!

back to the foam

This shows the inside of a side panel with a cross section of the backrest.
the backrest is shaped but I think the back of the section was originally straight and then curved to fit

The cover is black vinyl and I’m wondering if it was custom made. I haven’t seen any black vinyl ones and some of the stitching is quite random.

the sofa is one of two originally owned by Barbara Hepworth and lived in her studio, so it’s possible she had vinyl covers made for practicality?

So any suggestions much appreciated. It’s my only sofa so I need to get it sorted!

thanks in anticipation, Liz
