Hi folks,
I work on some Niels Møller chairs, model 83. I decided to clean the chair frame (suppose it’s teak but not sure) with steel wool and miniral spirits, then add some oil.
After applying the oil coat, the finish got on some spots very bright and kind of yellowish.
Now I think the wood could be a sort of walnut and a natural wood pattern. Another thought is there were some residue from the previous lacquer and the yellow spots are a result of oil mix with the old lacquer. Don’t like very much the spots and would like to get rid of them if possible.
Any thoughts about this? Did anyone have similar experience in the past?
Many thanks in advance!
Sun bleaching is a good hint. Most likely that could be the case. But don’t think those spots bother me so much that I completely strip the chair of again. 🙂 So the next owner must live with them. By the way I have the feeling that by the time the spots do get less. That would probably also speak for the sun bleaching I suppose.
PS: I suppose Møller offered chair with a sort of lacquer. Probably even a sort of shellac. But I am not so skilled yet, that I could recognize what it is.
