I have this love seat that needs repair:

The webbing under the seats has ripped away from where it is stapled to the frame:

I was told that this webbing isn't designed to hold weight, so it should be removed and replaced with proper supports, like Pirelli straps. I did some research to learn about how this work is done, and I learned about the slots built into the frame to accommodate webbing. However, the slots in this frame are only about 1 1/8" wide, and all the webbing I've found is 2" wide. Further, the slots go all the way through the frame, so it doesn't look like they accommodate clips like I've seen on some other sites discussing how to do a repair like this. There aren't any holes from staples/nails under the frame either, so I'm not sure if there were ever straps or how they would have been attached.

Would appreciate any guidance on how to move forward with this repair - thanks!

Matt

I've seen a few pieces where Pirelli webbing was cut in half lengthwise to make narrower strips, though 1" wide is pretty narrow.

I've also seen narrow webbing that was made of some kind of extruded vinyl (photo below).  I redid a Grete Jalk chair once that was supposed to have this stuff (which isn't made anymore).  It had an odd number of slots on one rail and an even number on the opposite rail, and the webbing zig-zagged from one side to the other---one long length of webbing.   I used 1" wide cotton webbing instead---not the best solution since it will probably stretch over time but I couldn't find anything better at the time.  Photo:

If the number of slots on opposite sides is the same, then you would use dowels to hold the ends in place.  This thread has some good photos and illustrations:  http://old.designaddict.com/forum/Repair/Kofod-Larsen-Spear-Chair-straps
