Can anyone help?

I am looking to re-upholster a set or rosewood Henning Sorensen dining chairs. The back splat is also uphostered on this particular model and the bottom of the back splat is fixed to the frame with 2 capped fixings. Thought they were mirror screws initially but couldnt get the caps to turn on one and then on another they just rotating without coming off. Dont want to go heavy handed and so it would be very helpful to know just what the fixing are. many thanks for any help that can offered

I would have assumed mirror screws, too. If the caps spin freely, though, I'd consider them to be sacrificial and go ahead with prying them off then replace with new. They remain unseen in typical use and you're reupholstering anyway, no?

These chairs look especially luxurious in leather

thanks for your replytktoo2. They will be reupholstered but wanted to keep them as original as possible and so am trying to preserve the fixings if at all possible. Thats why it would be helpful to get a definitive understanding as to whether they are mirror screws or some other type of fixing

Understood, danish nut. But please remember me with a smile when you do end up prying them loose. 😉

Have just started rennovating the chairs and discovered how the back splat capped fixings are removed. Turns out they are like giant drawing pins and so can be taken out by gentle levering. The caps conceal the screws that attach the splat to the chair frame. Hope this helps someone in future

Have just discovered that the capped fixings on the bottom of the splat are like giant drawing pins. They can simply be removed by gently levering them out with a screw driver. The caps conceal  screws that attach the splat to the chair frame. Trust this bit if knowledge sharing proves useful to someone else in future

Wait, you simply pried them loose?

Why didn't I think of that? 🙄
