Hello! I have acquired 4 vintage chairs with danish cord weaving that needs to be replaced. The original woven seats were fastened with staples. I have a large roll of paper cord and got L nails for this project. However upon further inspection of the chair braces I wonder if I must use staples instead. The chair braces are grooved and each corner includes a grooved wooden corner brace. Attached I’ve included pictures. What do you think- can the special L nails be used? Or is this a project for staples? Thanks
@yosa-studio do you have more pictures, also with and without the weaving?

@fredhh I’m not sure of the model.. I have not found other examples that have grooved bars and corner brackets either. I was hoping to use the L nails but I think upon inspection realize staples would be the way to go with this model. Navigating the corner brace and the grooves in the bar seem to be more challenging with nails.
@yosa-studio You could certainly do a mix. Most of it could be done with L-nails I think, but especially with the corner brackets it‘s probably way easier to use staples. Very interesting! Do you have a picture with the chair in total?

@fredhh I can’t seem to locate a maker or model on the chair. There is this sticker though “Danish Furniture Makers Control”
I just did a quick search and a possible designer could be Poul Volther Frem Rojle. Looks to be constructed in the same way with corner braces and staples.

And in coming full circle- after searching for repair paper cord chair Poul Volther- I found a discussion on this very forum. Though no name is indicated on my chairs- the specs do seem to match the chairs I have.
I appreciate both of you taking the time to offer feedback!

@yosa-studio Glad we could help. It's always nice to find an old thread like this where every aspect of a given problem is discussed in such a detail. Feel free to post the result of your reweave here. I would love to see it.

Here’s a pic of the first chair I re-corded compared to the old chair. I re-corded 3 chairs and my partner finished the 4th. I was using a cordless narrow crown stapler that has a built-in compressor— very heavy. I ended up straining my wrist too much.. it may take a few months to heal.. but now we have a full set of danish cord woven chairs! I would recommend instead of the cordless version to use a pancake compressor with a pneumatic crown stapler.. much lighter and easier on your wrist.
