Certainly a different aesthetic than "cerused" oak. Maybe more of a "fumed" oak look now, but nice job nonetheless. That your better half likes it is all that's important if your situation is anything like mine... Thx for posting results!

 

FWIW, India ink is great for "ebonizing" wood, but such treatment is considered permanent. In this case, not a problem but, something to be aware of. True India ink contains super-finely ground carbon pigment and there's no effective treatment for removing it.

yup.  Once you go India Ink there is no going back, but I love the tone it has and that it doesn't show any build up at all.  It goes on so thin   

I considered trying to get the original fumed look but am VERY happy with the look now.  About as good looking as oak gets in my opinion

I think I have a pic of the 2nd dresser as well that I refinished...let me check...I wish I had a before picture.  Great lines, ugly as sin...

look at that matched grain..yummy. It was under nasty muddy stain before.
