I have a recent table base for an Eames 36" Round Table for which I'd like to purchase a replacement top. Perhaps someone else here has had this issue? The original table was damaged in an accident and I got the base in excellent condition for a small amount of money. I'd like to put it to use. I've contacted a couple of online vendors who told me that they couldn't (or wouldn't) order the top separately. Herman Miller told me they could sell me the top but the prices they quote were more than the entire table would cost from an online vendor. While I'd prefer an original, new Herman Miller top, a pretty close match made by someone else would be fine with me to keep the cost down. I'd like a white laminate top with either white or black vinyl edging. I don't have the time to search for a used top and verify that it meets my requirement that it be in perfect condition. Any help you can provide with the name of a dealer who I can deal with by e-mail or phone and who will sell me a new Herman Miller or closely matching top and ship it to me would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

marble would be better than the original but if thats what you want its not a problem. This sort of thing either comes as mdf or particleboard with a melamine coating, Formica/laminex do hundreds of colours and patterns, just choose the one you want at any office furniture manufacturer and they'll cnc it for you, the black vinyl edging wedges into a slot cut in the circumferebce, or it is glued on with an edgebanding machine. I can't tell you how many of these tops I've manhandled, edged and assembled, they are nothing special.
Other than that they might be proper formica over mdf or even ply, with a balancing sheet on the other side. Again its nothing special, but of course it is thicker and more robust. I can't believe HM would want to charge you that much, they could probabaly spit a top out every 25 minutes.

Marble
Marble is truly beautiful. I scoured the web for a replacement top for my base to no luck. Sometimes restaurant suppliers have table tops available that are very similar to HM tops. Heath is correct - they're nothing special. Right now I'm using an Ikea top which works just fine until I get something more appropriate.

Does anyone know if these tables are done with a thick rolled solid aluminium edge, a 'L' profile? There is one at a shop near me like this that looks super but I allways assumed it wasn't HM becuase it has no label and I couldn't find a referance to the aluminium edge.

PS. have you guys considered getting Corian

I like the 3 khaki-ish colours and the
orange and of course the off whites.
