I just read a funny and informative science book called "What If ?" -- in which the ex-NASA guy who's now a cartoonist answers far-fetched questions like "How many laser pointers aimed at the Moon would it take to light up a dark moon and make it look full ?"
The answer was that there isn't enough energy generated on the Earth, at present, to power the necessary number of laser pointers.

The guy appears to have run the numbers. Sometimes the story leads him in some unexpected directions. When enough light is finally beamed from Earth to light up the moon visibly, that's enough energy to set the atmosphere on fire and burn up the surface of the planet and all of its inhabitants.
