There's an old book called...
There's an old book called "Contemporary Church Art" by Anton Henze circa 1956 in my collection. Interesting read, has an emphasis on architecture but also interior design and functional design (chalices, robes, candlesticks) and art.
1st photos Le Corbusier: Chapel Of Notre Dame
2nd Barry Byrne: Church of Saint Francis Xavier
This Barry also designed the Church of St. Columbia in St. Paul Minnesota near the DA Barry
trivia:
google: Saarinen North Christian Church.
J. Irwin Miller hired Eliel Saarinen to design a church in the 1930s (young Eero and Charles Eames designed some of the furniture, Ray developed the stains) Years later when the church delegates decided to fill in the reflecting ponds and grow grass instead, Mr. Miller became irate and hired Eero to design a new church, North Christian. Eero and Girard also designed 2 residences for Mr. Miller. The Eames aluminum group chairs were designed specifically for the Miller home. And, the fabric Millerstripe was named for J. Irwin Miller, not Herman Miller.
