These are being made by high school woodwork students after a design by Tage Frid, I'm impressed, good to see kids being encouraged to produce decent work rather than the rubbish so often on the curriculum.

It says
southeastern Pennsylvania. Interesting. Frid taught at RISD, in Providence -- don't know if he might have conducted summer workshops elsewhere. I don't know where he lived. I was fortunate to have his guidance for a couple of years, and think of him fondly.
"Vood moofs" was one of the truths that passed his lips. . .
If I had to make one of these handsome and no doubt comfortable stools, I think I would try to devise a routing device to smooth the concave surface of the seat plank. Laziness is the mother of invention ? Besides, I prefer the "workmanship of certainty" !
.
Good point, its says in the link the seats were bandsawed out, not my idea of a good time. A router jig to do that wouldn't be too complex, similar to a flattening jig I suppose. It would cut out what is a fairly shallow curve and leave a good surface at the same time.
I'd turn the legs instead and use a forstner bit to drill the holes and think about a cushion that wraps around the front and back edge somehow.
I'm working on something similar (all turned) and will post pictures when its done.
