Found this really cool set today. Everything about it seems to scream Gilbert Rohde to me. But I can't find anything identical in hours of google searches.
Do we have any Rohde specialists here? Looks like there was a rectangle lable in the top drawer of the desk and dresser, but they were removed or fell out. Any other markings I should look for? Anybody recognize the set?
Either way, I cant pass up the set for $75!!

I can't believe it! I was packing up the truck to go get the set in KC (a 6 hour drive for me); I call to let them know I'm on my way; the daughter sold the set this morning for $100 to someone else because they were there and I wasn't!!!
Mark this one as a VERY BIG one that got away. GRRRRRR!!

too late Norm. happens all too often with CL finds. either mis-communication, antsy family members, and sometimes just plain rude people(which this daughter seemed to fit the bill).
i'm just glad i wasn't halfway there. my wife is much more upset than i am! she had her sights on a Volvo SUV already! LOL! she wanted these bad boys flipped! told her something else would come around ... she wasn't buying it yet. 😉

If you've got a deal that silly in the works, you might offer them a bit more than the listing price to hold it for you. You could even tell them you'd match or better any offer they receive if they'll contact you prior to selling to anyone else. The important thing in such a situation is getting the stuff. Whether you pay $75 or $250 is really of little consequence, no?

i TOTALLY agree! I offered a bit more when i first talked to her; offered to send $ via paypal(never heard of it), and even offered to overnight the money to her. she said no worries, just call me in the morning and we'll work it out ....
well the daughter obviously had other ideas about getting it the heck out her way.
and this was a situation that i wasn't sure what it was; and although it was cool; it really had to be special to fetch my f.i.l.'s flatbed and drive 6 plus hrs to get.
should have known it was as cool as my first gut feeling told me it was. next time i'll start driving that night! lol.
if it's any consolation; I just picked up 4 lemon yellow and 2 wheat eames side shells for $60 ea. not the same bargain, but still not a bad CL day.
