I bought some wall panels but am finding them terribly DARK. I appreciate dark rosewood was all the rage in the 70s but really, light is at a premium and I would like something that brightens the room, not darkens it.
I know that these panels came in walnut and teak too. I already have a lot of teak, and the walnut ones are rare.
Seeing as they're just veneered... has anybody ever got them re-veneered in a wood finish of their choice?

Wouldn't it be a better idea...
Wouldn't it be a better idea to make new panels from say birch plywood?

why? then you'd be paying...
why? then you'd be paying someone to make up new panels. this way you can just reveneer what you have.

They are your panels. You can...
They are your panels. You can slice them into strips and light them up. If it gets you real high you can be the cat who smokes danish modern.
I think my point was that re-veneering is not a particularly trivial or cheap exercise. And you will have to figure out how to drill the holes for the shelves through the new veneer. And you will have worthless panels for your troubles.
Or could go buy birch veneer plywood, figure out how to drill the holes for the shelves, and sell or store the rosewood panels.
Why aren't you considering light paint? Or sanding down to the light particleboard?
I need a drink.

Leif
I'm imagining you drinking alone in a darkened room. Surrounded by dark brown wood panels.

I hardly dare ask...
But have you considered just not using the panels, and hanging the units on a white wall?

contrasting wall colour
Also, following on Robert's suggestion, have you tought of painting the walls in a contrasting colour to brighten up the rosewood?

I want wood panels on the wall. Still not sure why one shouldn't reveneer these. I don't care about selling them on, I don't have pretences to be a dealer. Ideally I would find some in oak but they are too rare. So could just get them reveneered. I've heard that it's actually not that expensive.

Personally
I think rosewood units on an oak board would look foul- but then I won't be living with it 🙂
Obviously, an oak faced sheet ply would be cheaper than getting existing panels reveneered (which despite what you may have heard, would be very expensive)

I wouldn't hang units on it. Just shelves. Those things are WAY too bulky unless you have a massive room. I could get oak panels and then find some teak struts and shelves. I would just look for a teak system but I'm teaked out. Don't want to be "Mr. Teak".

You could always just try it...
You could always just try it out. Here's a link to some adhesive veneer. I don't have experience applying veneer, so I'm not endorsing this product, it's just the first veneer I found that would accommodate the height of Cado panels. You could buy a couple of rolls of this, in different woods, and temporary affix it to your panels to see what the finished product might look like.

So..
?. you bought a rosewood Cado system in order to veneer the backboards with oak, and replace the shelves with teak ones?
Sure it makes sense to you 😉
