get it done
professionally by a spray shop so you don't end up with a bodge job.
should cost no more than £200

if the feet can be removed...
if the feet can be removed you could have the ladders powdercoated, they will media blast the old finish and rust off prior to coating. You should be able to specify the level of sheen you want. Make sure they place a bung in the threads at the bottom or you'll have to have them re tapped.

thanks very much for suggestions! much appreciated. although it's for personal use and not for resale profit, so I need to keep costs down... already paid 200 for four narrow book ladders (2m high) + shelves!

I agree with some of the comments on the thread. If you are going to keep these and live with them do get them powder coated.
Powder coating will be a lot more uniform and durable(it's applied electrostatically) than a normal spray job - no matter how good you are you will miss a bit with all those 'rungs'.
Shop around you should be able to do it for a lot less than £200 - you can usually specify a RAL colour too.

cheers all. hey pete, what do you mean by "place a bung in the threads at the bottom or you'll have to have them re tapped". What's a bung, what is retapping?

bung
He's talking about holes that are threaded inside and you should put a plug in them so that paint doesn't coat the threads. Retapping is machining new threads.

oh right. these ones came with the feet and plastic inserts already removed, so I guess that's not a problem... as for "retapping" surely one could just buy a replacement foot + thread off eBay rather than pay for machining new threadslit_up@rocketmail.com

thanks
just wanna say a big thanks for the advice here. esp to Pete for letting me know about armourtex.
I came to DA after initially getting in touch with a dealer who shall remain nameless. I'd asked them if they could sell me some ladders to add to my existing system, she says no, she only does large orders. So I get some off eBay, and then ask where I can get them resprayed, she says "I'm sorry I don't divulge business information such as this". A bit stuck up her own arse, I think.
So anyway I went to armourtex and jeez, I've never seen so many ladders in my entire life! done a very reasonable price too, 20 quid a ladder. here they are in my room now, behind the sofa.

removing the feet
Can someone please tell me what the correct method for removing the feet is?
The stuff I got resprayed already had feet removed when I received it.
This time, I want to respray some gold ladders black but they still have the feet on. Not sure if there's a way to safely remove without damaging, and replacing, the feet.
thanks in advance
