I figure if its okay to talk about steaming out dents in wood furniture, its okay to talk about hair dryer-ing out dents in the plastic, lower half portions of car bumpers. Cars are designed too. Just tried it after bashing my car on a parking lot island. Took the dent right out of the plastic.
Heat with hair dryer and apply light push with rubber mallot...
or other soft, rounded object. I tried pounding and pushing with the rubber hammer without using the hair dryer and had no success. With 15-20 seconds of warming, the dent in the plastic became quite easy to push part way out. Another similar period of warming brought it the rest of the way out, but for a small indentation. And that remedied itself by the end of the day. The only problem was that my wife got out of the shower subsequently and became quite exercised about not having her hair dryer. I have a bad habit of leaving tools where I use them. 🙂 However, when I told her I had saved us huge bucks that the dealer wanted to replace the entire plastic bumper cover (the dent had happened a few weeks ago), and promised that this meant she, er, we could go buying, er, shopping, with a clear conscience (and adequate budget), she cheered immediately.
