As mentioned on another fence thread of mine, my builder backed out of building my fence at the agreed price because "wood has gone up 3X in the last year." Particularly speaking, we are talking cedar. I am in Austin, TX.
Would this be the case nationally, or only locally? What would be a good way to verify this? I have talked to two people who have had ongoing building projects who think that this is not the case.
.
Try a demoltion yard, if they're anything like here you might even find an entire cool fence or the timbers for one very cheaply. Years ago I saw about 100 metres of thick tall cast alumium deorative (70's) panelling from a demolished shopping mall that I wish I had bought now.
Again if its anything like here you'll pay more at the lumberyard if you obviously aren't a builder, try and avoid the treated stuff and banging my little drum again please look for the FSC logo.
How about something like an Aalto wavy wall fence?
I'm assured that cabinet grade timbers are far more expensive now than they were 20 years ago, SDR might have something to say about that.
agreed price
whitespeak,
If you are fortunate enough to have his agreement in writing one of my favorite ways to punish transgresors is to hit them in the wallet. I have my attorneys drag (a good choice of words) them through the the court system with the sole intention of breaking their financial back.
Contrary to what you may be thinking, a great many good people work for me and we are all happy when the day is done. When I make a deal I always honor my obligations even if I have made an error and it cost me money. A deal is a deal and lack of resources or misunderstandings are unexceptable excuses.
Good luck
AFter some investigation,...
AFter some investigation, yes, the price of wood has increased a bit ... perhaps they exaggerated a pinch, but within reason I guess.
Either way my fence was supposed to be built 8 months ago. It wouldn't have been forgotten had the promises been kept to begin with. Builders. And the architects who support their excuses.
