i am 17 years old and in my country is illegal for a teenager to drink alcohol .
i know somebody who sells a knoll barcelona table for 350 eyros , it is very cheap and i am going to buy it .
the only problem is that the glass top is missing and i don t know if it is better to buy the glass top from knoll or find another not knoll . which do you think is the best solution ? with the second solution i wont have to worry about these sharp corners .
best
vangelis

It's a sideboard, designed in...
It's a sideboard, designed in the late fifties by Franz Ehrlich for VEB (People's own factory) Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau in 1956 and one of the finest pieces in socialist Germany's modernist design.

Greetings vangelis!
Consider replacing the glass with the correct version, regardless of how sharp the corners are. Bloody/scarred legs can be sort of appealing, and the table would look cheapened if it were topped with anything else.
Best,
Mark

Barcelona glass
vangelis,
I your country it may be illegal to know a guy like Mark (that is a joke).
As for the Barcelona table, you could probably save some money (at least on freight) by having Knoll send you the specifications and then finding a glass dealer with a CNC cutting machine (for exact tolerances) do the work. I did this with a MR table (my savings was in the freight).
Good luck.

Thanks -- that's
good to know. In the glass industry to date the size tolerances have been excessive in my opinion -- due to the nature of the material and the technique employed. The cut leaves a wavy edge which must be ground and polished -- more grinding if the waves happen to be excessive. Presumably to save grinding time they cut large. I had to have three of four pieces of 1/4" re-ground because they needed to fit into framed openings -- and I erred on the tight side in my specification. The thicker the glass, the less precise their sizing will be. The tolerances I've been given have generally been +- 1/16" for 1/4" glass. That's a total variance of 1/8" !
However, I doubt that anyone will measure a free-floating top to see if it's within 1/8" of the designer's specification . . .
It's good to know there's a better solution -- for a price. Do they cut the glass with a CNC grinder ?

cutting glass
SDR,
I have known this crowd for years and I am treated as "to the trade customer". When they did my MR top the savings on the glass was marginal, but the savings on inbound Knoll freight was substantial. All in all I estimate my savings to be around 25%. I have a long term relationship with Knoll Chicago (not my location) and my pricing was already better than retail.
Here is the information from their web site:
Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) Fabrication
_______ Glass subjects each project to CNC Fabrication. This process is practiced using advanced Italian machinery which ensures the glass is cut and polished to precision.
Various edge finishes are available, which include:
Flat Polish (Industry Standard)
Pencil-Edge
Bull Nose
Single, Double & Triple Waterfall
Ogee
Beveled
Chamfer
Bark-edged
We also have complete capabilities for Glass Engraving & 'V-Grooving'.

rozellglass -- if you happen...
rozellglass -- if you happen to see this post...is the mirror you posted in this thread a Howard Miller Quatrefoil mirror? It's such a tiny picture, I can barely make it out.

.
Sofa, books and an antique technical drawing set, the real treasures though are in the workshop, hundreds of sketches and a small fortune in tools.
