well I've just started drawing and I need somewhere to keep my stuff. It occurred to me that architects, designers etc must all have one of these and being creative themselves, must have come up with some real corkers. Can you indicate any pencil cases of notable/interesting design?

try
peeling the label off of a coffee can. Once you get down to the metal and it is all shiny you can call it "in the style of Milo Baughman"

What do you mean "in the style of"
I thought all chrome design is directly attributable to baughman.
And to the OP, no I don't know of any pencil cases, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Except there is the old saying about the cobbler's children.

Too true
I used to regularly attend life drawing classes. There were always a handful of attendees that would turn up with the most flash of kits, proper fold out garage tool style pencil cases and the most expensive of equipment. They could invariably only manage the more rudimentary of drawings, whereas I with my battered old pencil tin was a virtual Rembrant ;)(I wish!)

I use an old Glenfiddich tube, some scraps of thick leather just folded over and stitched would be pleasant though, there are things like that on Etsy.

Leather tool rolls
I've used them for years and have half a dozen varieties.
Nothing is lost, they feel great and roll out flat. Look handsome on a desk.
Cost anywhere for 15 dollars to 100. Do a google image search...you will see many.
(just a sample here..)
-just deleted the first link...it was more of a pouch upon further inspection.

Thats a really good idea, I may even abandon the whisky tube in favour of...
Or remeber the little leather tool cases that used to hang off the back underside of bicycle seats, looks like you can still get them.

Anime
I would be hard pressed to resist the "cat bus" pencil case from studio Ghibli. It is a character from the movie "My Neighbor Totoro". Then again if you had kids you would be fighting them for it. I did a quick google of Japanese pencil case and came up with a large selection. Largely anime themed, but also adult fare as well. BTW. If you have not seen it, My Neighbor Totoro is a flawless movie for all and perfect children's fare as well.

good call
glassartist,
Good call on the Japanese pencil boxes. Last month I found a Sanrio Ltd - Zashikibuta pencil box. Too cool. I filled it with Eames pencils for Library of Congress that they were giving away (free) at the museum.
