While looking into the recent questions about the 2315-C chairs, I came across another chair attributed to Pearsall and possibly made in Denmark. The first one, listed as model 834-C , is shown with a Tørring Møbelfabrik label. I have not been able to find another example with a label, so not sure if this is legit.
The second chair, model 843-C, has similarities in the leg and arm design, but I haven't found any with a mark or label. And the strapping is completely different, so maybe there is no relation.
There's nothing to suggest Tørring had anything to do with the 2315-C chairs with all the red stamps, I just thought it might be interesting if Craft had some designs produced in Denmark.
Pearsall just copied the designs of others. His construction was horrible (ask @spanky) and in house so economically it doesn’t fit to get Danes to make the pieces. So I think the strong default position has to be that these were copies. Perhaps since they were not very famous designs from a land far away he felt he could produce near identical knockoffs?
Pearsall furniture was made in Pennsylvania. He copied a LOT of other peoples' stuff. Vladimir Kagan sued him for infringement.
I went through the Pearsall catalog years ago and documented a lot of the copies and posted it on DA. Not sure if it ever got moved to the new site. Lots of old threads didn't.
Pearsall did a passable job with the workmanship on the frames that were visible, but the frames covered with upholstery looked like something out of a high school shop class (sophomore or junior year at that).
So, you think these chairs were originally Danish designs that Pearsall reproduced? I looked through some of the old Pearsall threads but didn't find any that gave specific examples of copies. @Spanky , do you recall any specific words you would have used in that thread?
I see that his kids have removed the Craft catalogs from their website because people were "copying and reproducing" pieces. They are charging a $75 fee to certify pieces with a copy of the catalog page.
I notice that the orange chair, shown with the Tørring Møbelfabrik label, has the same seat support as other model 834-C chairs. It's an "Elasta Seat" made by Acushnet of New Bedford, MA as shown in attached pictures. I'm starting to think that the Tørring tag wasn't on these chairs. Any thoughts?
Pearsall didn't reproduce anything. He came up with slightly different designs based very, very closely on existing designs by others. In casual parlance, these are knockoffs. A lot of companies did it but Pearsall gets so much more credit than what he's due. Many people who are new to the genre have the idea that he's some kind of iconic figure, and a lot of dealers toss his name about because it'll sell furniture. Some may believe their own hype too, i dunno.
The thread i was talking about above never got moved to this new site. The Pearsall catalog IS still around, though, thanks to the web archives. I wrote a big long post with the link in it and then hit save and lost the whole thing AND got booted out. So just do a google search for "pearsall catalog is still up" (including quotes) and you'll find the original DA thread with the link.
I grabbed a few pics from it and found comparisons but I'll put those in the next message in case that's what killed my last post.
Thanks @spanky . I was able to find that old thread and the catalog link you posted. Here it is again.

And I see what you mean - not direct copies but many pieces "inspired" by others. Like this version of the Saarinen executive chair.
