I have a combex chair which needs upholstering and have a few questions for any experts out there.
First of all my chair is the timber leg and not the wire leg version. It has a small timber magazine shelf/tray that fixes together with the legs to the backrest. Not sure if the upholstery was original or not. it was in a poor condition with piping and carried over to the back frame where it had a couple small nails tack it in place.
I have noticed there are a few versions or re-upholstered chairs on the internet and would like to find out which is the most correct.
1]A lot have upholstered the rear of the backrest and some have left with the wood finish. Its seems the wood is a golden colour and meant to exposed as opposed to the underneath which is unfinished timber. Any idea on what the original design was?
2]I have been in discussions with the upholsterer and he said the only way to get the fabric on the backrest to wrap around the sides of the backrest and finish like the detail in photos is to staple the edge. these staples will obviously be visible and wont look good. He also said he could cover staples with fabric strip stuck on [wont look right]. Does anyone have any idea how these were chairs on the photo's were upholstered and/ or have any tips on the best way to do it?
thanks in advance for your help
