To
To enable the fixing of the arc ?

I hate to say it but I think Robert
1960 is right ,
I looked in my Flos and their is a little butterfly screw that looks like that is how you adjust it.
When i bought my lamp I said come on out and put it together, when i got home it was done so I assume that is one of the correct answers.
Thanks

LOL
don't hate to say it 😉
The fixing is within the hole, and it is also the perfect place (as Koen says) to lift it..being the centre of gravity..
All in all, a great design..
But we all knew that already

Favourite Designer?
Changes all the time, I tend to have favourite objects......
I oiled my Quistgaard ice bucket yesterday, and fell in love with it all over again 🙂
Probably be Peter Hvidt next week, when the sofa comes out of storage 😉

Dear Robert 1960...
Knowing Castiglioni's sense of humor, I am almost sure that the broom story was indeed an after thought but than again...he also used to say that you need more than one or two reasons to make the right decision in design... So why are two of the corners cut off and not all four...or none at all

Castiglioni's lamp is one ...
Castiglioni's lamp is one of the most difficult objects to move, this year it will stay put and the Christmas tree
will go to a new spot ,
BUTTTT if you use a stick.... two people have to move the
85 lb marble lamp while one can shove it a inch at a time, Did Castiglioni
think about that, and the hole is right dap in the center cause i just eyeballed it.

one question did Castiglioni design that little swing set seat? or did his brother. I have looked at one at a store that i buy my cool stuff at for a year I love his work but this one is worthless to me what do you think? From one of the top 5 lamps of the 20 century to this

Moving
heavy objects across finished floors doesn't have to be difficult: on a smooth floor use a pad (could be a small rug, a heavy towel, etc) and slide it (tip each way and insert one from each side, if necessary); on carpet use a smooth thin board like a piece of tempered Masonite -- have two handy to make an "endless" sliding surface.
Lifting is hard on the back -- and the furniture ?

Probably Hans Wegner and Poul Kjaerholm. I'm also fond of Grete Jalk.

I have to agree with maryannescott
It is Gio Ponti for me. His furniture designs in particular - they are all about the "beautiful line."
It is all so succinct yet purposeful. I love the way he executes with such lithe elegance -it leaves such a powerful impression - Very much like Pininfarina designs for Ferrari. Bellisima!
