hi,
i'm searching the web for several times to find out something about the construction of a daf chair. i couldn't find any informations about if and how a la fonda base fits under a daf chair. i only find your forum... i hope someone of you can help me. sometimes you find daf's here, in germany or europe, with lafonda bases, they are affordable. okay not really, but more than one with swag legs. these are about 3000$ minimum. i guess they were produced for the european market only. what i whant to know, is it possible to remove the eames base and put a swag leg base under it? if never seen a swag leg chair for real, so i never had the possibility to look under it... another question, if you have a upholstered version, do the screws looking through the shell on the top? like on upholstered eames armchairs. and my third question is, is it possible to buy herman miller swag leg bases solo in the states? or do you have to buy a whole new plastik daf chair, if you only wnat the base? does everybody know a mailorder, which is selling herman miller stuff outside the states? i know, there are restrictions, but... not only that vitra products are much more expensive, they don't produce the swag leg chairs. but the swag leg desks. by the way that doesn't make sense to me...
to answer your question...
yes... the lafonda bases as well as the eiffel base/h-base/nesting base/rocker/swag leg base are all interchangable. The swag leg chair and lafonda are both built off the original Eames design. I have actually played around and switched these out on several chairs to see what they look like. If you found an old DAF w/ Lafonda base you could order a new swag leg chair from HM and switch them out perfectly. What manufacturer is the DAF produced by?
