so mobiles are ubiquitous...
so mobiles are ubiquitous and utilitarian, nevertheless they are still design objects... still worth a place on these boards. There are so many mobiles of generic design that people almost don;'t think of them. but seeing as we all have a mobile and use it everyday, may as well think about which ones look better than all the generic ones

I quite liked this attempt by Jasper Morrison to reduce a phone to its essentials. I don't think it really sold in any great number though....

When i saw this thread, i thought of Calder.
"A mobile is a type of kinetic sculpture constructed to take advantage of the principle of equilibrium. It consists of a number of rods, from which weighted objects or further rods hang. The objects hanging from the rods balance each other, so that the rods remain more or less horizontal. Each rod hangs from only one string, which gives it freedom to rotate about the string."
Mobile phones are certainly interesting design.
I've only had two. StarTac and the iphone.
I'm a bit old school. The basics will do.
