after reading a lot of the websites on knock offs I am begining to have a difficult time determing what is a knock off ??? when it comes to a Barcelona or a Bruno chair.
I own 6 Brunos from Knoll from around 1972. I bought 2 from Furniture fancy I had them all recovered to match. I really can not tell what is from knoll and what is from Alphaville the real manafacture who has them made in China on runs of 1000 at a time.
I bought the two new ones cause i wanted 8 chairs at my dinner table I was tired of waiting till some one on ebay sold them for around 600 beat up and a must to redojust caue the chair was knoll the one i got from furniture fancy were real nice , but I changed the leather cause i wanted them all to match.
Now in my office I have 5 barcelona chairs scattered around. In my personal office I have 2 knolls from 1970 with stickers on the bottom and of course standard issued black , bought on ebay for 1200. each 2 years ago. still soft and not cracked. I ended up buying 3 from Furniture fancy for around 600.00 each and they are really good looking . will someone tell me have I commited a cardinal sin. have I taken food from some orphans . have I violated the rules of being a true design addict.
I would like your opion on great reproductions and why Knoll should be so expensive ( remember I have both) I read the discussion on the egg chair I am still amazes that, that chair cost 6000 grand for fabric in Kvadat and 10,000 in leather I have never seen a repo on that one and am wondering if the repo bases are any good and look like Fitz Hansen.

Dear LRF...
Products are there to be enjoyed. Pleasure can come from the particular function, the safety and or confort, the formal qualities, and so many other factors. One of them could be the commercial origins of the piece. In that case knowing that some are Knoll and others not might add to the pleasures. It is far too late for the designer, in this case Mies v.d.Rohe, to be compensated for his work and all legal means to protect the model (not the name, which is subject to copyright) have expired so, if you have no personal reasons to buy from Knoll (being secretly in love with the late Florence Knoll might be a good one, as is the urge to support the owners of the Knoll company) and you find another reliable source of supply, just enjoy!!

Barca blog
A contributor to this forum started a Barcelona chair site a couple of years ago but it is no longer maintained. Perhaps it may give you additional information and links for you project.
