here is a piece I have been stumbling over finding info on...the tag in the drawer indicates :
'C and L Brown of Newington, Edinburgh...House Furnishers'
does that term mean they were a furniture store or designed/manufactured furniture as well?
The back and front are shown...there is also a mirror with original hardware that I will post a pic of seperately...you can kind of see where the struts go on the backside...but it is a finished back which is a detail I am always crazy for...love getting the furniture off the walls!
are there any european designers these details typify like the single leg, two tone wood etc or in your opinion is this a generic piece of european furniture?
thanks for any comments, clues or assistance....

Furniture retailer
Hi. I can't tell you who made the vanity unit, but I can confirm that C&J Brown's WAS a furniture retailer rather than a manufacturer. In fact, I'm typing this from about 50 yards away from its original location at the corner of Bernard Terrace and Newington Road in Edinburgh (it's now a Sainsbury's). It's entirely possible that they commissioned this for their own label, and had it manufactured by one of the excellent Scottish cabinetry firms of the period (e.g. Macintosh), but that's just my speculation. As far as I'm aware they were not designers or manufacturers per se.
