You forgot to blame Ray, but it seems this thread has done an adequate job of that already.

How about a BIG one now?
If you can zip off bases that quick, why not play with scale?
I want to see an LTR in proportion to the original, but BIG BIG BIG!
I might even be tempted to pay cash money for such a thing.

So, that would
be a dining table -- that you couldn't sit at -- but with a top 2" thick ? Maybe it could double as a seismic shelter ?

Shorts
We're going to need that shelter if Aunt Mark wears those shorts again! (only joking A.M. I love a bit of pied de poule.)

Scale Change
Probably keep it more like 24 X 28 X 18.5H
top about 1.4" thick
or 32 X 38 X 25H for a real monster (but standard height for average contemporary scale sofa) end table...
Is there wire available that is 2.5 X thicker than what you've used so far, OP? Is it feasible cost-wise or prohibitively expensive?

objectworshipif you want...

if you want i could make you a ltr that have double the measurements.
use 5/16 rod for the main hoops and 1/4 rod for the diagonal pieces
and laminate some 3/4 plywood so the top is 1.5 inch

If only...
If only my apartment were larger than 450 square feet...
it would have to be hung from the ceiling somehow to display it, and I'm not quite crazy enough to do that yet
but the thought is delicious, quite tempting-
(I have 14 LTR tables, no kiddin'...)

AND
all of the parts have to be in scale, or it won't be effective
(Even the miniature HM 'sample' LTRs aren't right, and the tops attach weirdly, which is unfortunate)

The practice of copying was...
The practice of copying was rife in the mid-century
period. I personally don't have a problem with someone
making an Eames style table for their personal use.
I do have a problem with cheap copies produced using
slave labour to feed a market for fashionable designs.
How will current young designers ever get a break whilst companies
are permitted to exploit their hard work and steal
their IP? Why should designers spend time and money
on R & D only to have someone illegally mass produce
their design?
In relation to the amount of unethical business
practices that threaten the viability of careers in
design, the making of a fairly non-descript Eames
table for personal use seems pretty insignificant.
As I watch the news of Palestinian children being
blown up by the Israeli Government, discussions
around ethics seem wasted on design.

HM
The HM miniature version is pretty shoddy. The top is made of particle board.
