The old gang is back!!!...
The old gang is back!!! Haha. Pot stired
I still haven't fully commited to the walnut top but that figure and grain is beyond epic and beautiful and its not everyday you see grain like that. But the shorter length delima did present itself to me wheather if I did it to narrow the table proportionately Or leave the width the same making more of fat surfboard. What ever I did I would leave the base the same distance from ends and edge spacing the same.
I have a sheet of black laminate that I just received from good ole home depot so don't lose faith on me yet, I still could do the right thing!
Who is onegrovydude and I definitely don't do meth or smoking Anything for that mater. I like my having nice. Stain free teeth.

Jackson P
had a great answer when someone asked him about the influence of nature in his paintings.
His answer: "I AM nature".
"Jack the Dripper" was quite the ripper when it came to drinking. I would think he would be one of your favorites Lunchbox.
Order up!

I am totally with you on Warhol. One of the best. I love his electric chair series. Black on Black, Pink and yellow, Redrum Red. Love his coke bottles too, and his Silver Triple Elvis. But my favorites (in spirit anyway) are his hours long movies of stationary shots. Empire State Building at nightfall for hours. Eight hours of a brick wall. And another of a guy sleeping all night.
I think Warhol was the bridge between Marcel Duchamp and YouTube.
PEE YES: I was not familiar with the copper Warhol. How'd I miss that?

Don't get me started on...
Don't get me started on Duchamp. Some of That movement of found objects is beyond stupid and not only did I have to learn about it in one of my art history class but also also in my aesthetics of art/ philosophy as well and I wanted to pull all my hair out both times.

hey but
I was just defending your "C" with all the Duchampian spirit I could muster. And this is the thanks I get?
Sheesh.
Besides, Warhol IS Duchamp. Just makes much better paint jobs.

You have trouble with Duchamp's urinal, but then the ONE Warhol you reference as good is the one he peed on?
ISSUES!!!

PS. On a side note, if Andy was alive today and was doing the group piss paintings (I believe not just him peed on it.) He prob would invite R Kelly. Bhahah

yes
especially since its such an "outlier" kind of thing for Warhol.
So ANYWAY, the thing about the beautiful piece of dark oak veneer is that you love it ALREADY, even when its just a piece of wood sitting there. So in a way you might be temporarily blinded by the oak , and unable to see the spirit of the zen beauty of the big black "blank" oval.
Not that your love for the veneer is not valid. That kind of love for wood no doubt inspired many a great design.
You know all this, right? Fresh from design school/art school. I hope I have not insulted you with any of my comments. I have found that my tone gets mis interpreted in print. Or else Im just a jerk half the time.

Its walnut! Get it right!...
Its walnut! Get it right! Hahah. Its heavily figured and burled and a thing of beauty.
And the backing prevents it from bending to much so it not good for most stuff I do

PS to OP re: ETR
It just comes down to respect for the design choices made by the original designer. If you're gonna make "one of those" there is the standard of the original right there to look at.
One of my favorite things about the early first production Surfboard tables has always been the thick plywood edge. (The new ones have a different, more refined looking and possibly thinner edge) But the old ones proudly exhibit the early 1" thick "generic" plywood edge with the thick layers.
Even though it is harder to make than the LTR, the Surfboard is still a very reduced set of variables. It's nothing but a floating oval top and an edge. And to me, that edge becomes even more important because the top is intentionally "quiet".
The wire cage bases are even more "invisible" than they are on the LTR, as they are smaller and thinner in relation to the huge top.
To me, it seems like the intent was very clear in its quietness. Kind of like a reflecting pool on a calm day.
Also, it seems that a very elaborate and rich looking DARK WALNUT top would be somewhat undermined by a more humble and inexpensive looking exposed plywood edge.
Keep in mind the spirt of the piece!
In other words, "GET IT RIGHT"! hahaha
(I am obviously still stinging from your earlier zinger about the correct wood)
