Interesting thing about the Eames bases,
is that for years, all I ever saw was the standard H base or the office pedestal with casters. I never saw a single Eifel or Dowel base until they were being reproduced.
In terms of sheer elegance, I think the dowel is the most beautiful, followed by the Eifel and that low wire base.
I think of the H as just being standard, not office-y, but 'the default'. I can certainly understand you're not wanting the pedestal with casters, 'cause they ARE office-y.
However, I DO have two-tone brown vinyl and hopsack fabric covered shell chair with the office pedestal on wheels in my living room and I like it alot! Go figure.
