2 cool items
just stopped by a local thrift and got a great Labofa desk chair and this very interesting table. Solid Walnut. Hand made. Not marked. Probably American (ASKING FOR AN OPINION HERE). Great workmanship

Brass(?) Brno
I bought this last night for $50 and I am super excited about it! I've turned up very little information about a brass version of the Brno flat-bar chair, but I have an inquiry sent in to Knoll, so here's hoping I can find out more!

Pegboard-
The estate you bought that sculpture sounds dreamy. sigh.
The Tree character could also be the artists surname or signature or just possibly the title of the piece. I'm not sure if this tidbit can help you in your research but thought I'd mention it. You are probably right that it is Japanese- I know that in chinese you sign your last name first in the sequence of characters in your name so if it was the artists signature than possibly "tree" was their last name...

Greta Von Nessen Anywhere Lamp
I scooped a Greta Von Nessen anywhere lamp up from an estate for under $20. It was a good day. http://www.moma.org/collection/object.php?object_id=1962http://arttattler.com/designgooddesign.html

Just picked up a...
Just picked up a Nelson/Miller walnut wall mirror with the Alexander Girard 'Quatrefoil' pattern design. I had been hoping to find one of these for a long time for the wall next to my hall closet--I have a Quatrefoil mantel clock so I thought it would be nice to have a mirror from this series too. However, the built-in drawer on this mirror protrudes far enough that if I hang it up I can't open the closet door--doh!

I always thought these pieces were Umanoff designs, no? Girrard didn't do any work for Howard Miller, did he? I know he did the quatrefoil fabric....but I don't believe these pieces are connected. I like the mirror and happen to have the matching wall clock myself.

Oh, I don't think Girard designed these pieces, I just meant they were based off his design for Herman Miller. But I can't imagine they didn't have some kind of agreement with Girard or Herman Miller to use the design.

Actually, if anybody knows...
Actually, if anybody knows more about these Quatrefoil pieces for the Meridian home line, I would love to hear about it. You see the clocks periodically, but there were mirrors and other pieces and you hardly ever see them.

I remember
seeing a Howard Miller catalog citing the clocks as Umanoff. I would assume The mirror shelf is also. Girard certainly did not invent the Quatrefoil. I would just chalk it up as another in a long line of borrowers of the pattern.

I have to disagree with you. ...
I have to disagree with you. Of course Girard didn't invent the quatrefoil, but -- seriously? You don't see the difference between Girard's design and quatrefoils in general?

I am
not sure as to what part you are in disagreement. I made no statement concerning the originality (or lack thereof) of Girard's take on the quatrefoil.

It sounded to me like you were suggesting that the quatrefoil used on the mirror and clocks was not based on Girard's design.

I guess I don't understand...
I guess I don't understand then--what point were you making when you noted that Girard didn't invent the quatrefoil?
