Just got all three volumes of Phaidon Design Classics from a local thrift shop for $12 all in. All three in great condition.

Thanks midwest
Tree, huh? Any idea why an artist might sign their work with the character for "Tree"? Other than the obvious fact that the wood was once a tree, that is.
And the symbol is the same in both Japanese and Chinese? I'm going to bet that it came from Japan based on other items in the home that were clearly from travels to Japan.
I got the sculpture along with a number of items from a high-end estate on the lakefront in Chicago. These folks were well traveled and had very fine furnishings. I also got a Dunbar sofa and lounge chairs upholstered in Jack Lenor Larsen fabric and some fantastic lighting.
Thanks again for the help midwest.

a 4 chair day
3 REALLY beat spindle back side chairs marked "made in sweden". Quite handsome but needing much work.
and this rather odd baby. American, I suspect. Just a # stamped on the bottom. Nice wide seat.

last evenings pick
They have a somewhat shiny finish on the seat and back. Not sure if they are supposed to be like that. Wear to the finish but the Shock mounts are in great condition.

Agree woody
I'm not sure about them either which I why I put then up for evaluation by you guys. Seller said she was given then by a former room mate. That room mate supposedly told her that they had been in her parents basement "forever". I was skeptical but decided to buy them anyway as the pair was 360. I know nothing about authenticating these particular chairs. Will extra pics or dimensions help you guys help me?

Well
I was hoping you would say that you got them for next to nothing, because unfortunately they're not authentic. I wonder if the seller intentionally tried to make them look vintage...

Sucks for me
You win some you lose some. I went into that purchase blindly as I am unfamiliar with the LCW. Never owned one. School me a bit if you dont mind. What is it with thes chairs that is wrong besides I assume the finish?

pardon my ignorance
but aren't those THONET?
As I remember the Thonet veriant's back rest support does NOT bulge out. The one above does not, so Thonet.

.
Aside from the finish..the spine and the shock mounts look different than the Herman Miller version...but they are very nice chairs, non-the-less. But aren't they more of a knock-off DCW than a LCW? Quite acceptable, methinks.
Carry on.

I am lost. Mark, as you pointed out, the angle of the spine is more of a DCW. I know there are knock offs of everything but do the knockoffs have single shock mounts on the back? I guess I am reaching here as I hate getting burned.

jdip,
I only have an LCW, and the back is attached using 2 shock mounts (seat uses 4). Don't feel toasted...you bought a pair of fine chairs.
Let's have a shot.
best,
Mark.

Jacobsen Flatware
Just received this 60 piece set of Arne Jacobsen flatware that I bought my wife on Ebay. The listing said Georg Jensen, but when I opened the box it's all A. Michelsen! Pretty sure it was a score at $480.
