I am in the process of buying more Knoll Saarinen chairs to create the complete set that I want. I currently have two swivel armless chairs (one needs to have the fiber glass fixed, but that's another thread), and four stationary arm chairs. I would love to have all the chairs swivel and was wondering if I can purchase other swivel chairs and just switch out the bottoms? Does BR50 and BR51 refer to the swivel and stationary bases? Can I put a base that comes from an armless chair on an arm chair?
Also, I need to have the seat cushions replaced on the arm chairs because they are really bad (split Naugahide). What are your opinions on replacement cushions? Do I go to my local place and just have some made that will look similar or do I pay the $300 or so for gunuine knoll pads? My feeling is that I will have this set for the rest of my life (since I had my last dinette set for 35 years). I also feel that paying over $1200 for pads is more than a bid crazy! Just a note - my swivel chairs are not marked (except for the BR-50 on the base) and the I do know that the cushions on all 6 are knoll and original though the tags are no longer on them. The arm chairs have the impression left on them of the knoll stickers though they are long gone. Real Knoll cushions on real but untaggged Knoll Saarinen Is is worth it? ~Elle
