Don't know if this has been touched upon before but I thought I'b bring it up all the same.
When my daughter first got her iPhone I noticed the virtual buttons for the calculator were almost identical to the iconic Braun 4776 calculator buttons - Smarties, as I like to think of them. The colours are almost the same too.
Would this have been copied directly or used by agreement with Braun, I wonder? Would there be any copyright infringement when they are only virtual buttons?
I notice too, that the newer version uses square and rectangular virtual buttons rather than the round ones, though the colours are the same.
Another Dieter Rams "homage?"
I noticed the same thing on the original iphone.
But why not steal from the best?
It's a graphic solution vastly superior to the incredibly lame clip-art-like hodgepodge of icons that represent "Photo," "Settings," etc. on the main screen.
Beats me why the sophistication of Apple's product design and advertising ain't matched by the design of the graphics on the flagship product. If I'm missing something, please tell me.

I was maybe being a little tunnel visioned, seeing only the similarity in the calculator!
Rams and Braun have created some beautiful products. I remember wanting to save up for a Zenith Transoceanic radio when I was in my teens. Then I saw the Braun T1000. (I bought neither)
What I cannot understand is that Braun seem to have lost sight of their earlier philosophy. Their current range of electric razors for example, are over designed and over priced.
No worries guys 🙂
T1000...

T1000 the one that got away! they seem to be one of the most collectable (and expensive) Rams designs today
The lighter above is from the Gugelot design studio: 1972, dont think Gugelot was involved as he died in 1965 ( personally i think it looks a bit like a Dunhill Rollagas)
