Hmmmm,
ya know there is something about an inset wooden leg on a sofa (or chair) that I find off-putting. When I look at the above pix what I see is an imbalance. The visual weight of the top overwhelms the weight of the bottom. Is this just me?

I see what you're getting at Olive. The top and bottom have seemingly competing visuals, not helped by the blocky nature of this piece. Even so, I do find them handsome. Perhaps a different setting would balance it out.

I think this kind of thing creates a richer texture and breaks the hold of more minimal design.
