Did you hear that the Getama factory in Gedsted burned to the ground friday night? That is a bummer. Getama is a producer of Wegner, Mogens Koch and some Nanna Ditzel furniture. They are (or were?) among the last remaining companies which produced Danish design in Denmark.

Thanks for sharing the news, and sorry to hear. Looks pretty devastating in this photo. It seems like so many of the great furniture makers have suffered major fires at some time. I suppose the combination of stacks of wood, sawdust, chemicals, and machinery is particularly dangerous. However, you'd think by now they'd have sophisticated fire suppression systems in place.
@mark737. Having seen your image of the fire and the scale of it's destruction, my previous comment feels a bit "inadequate"

@mark737 Yes, they all burned down at some time, some even twice. But usually that was in the 30s or 40s, some in the 50s. I'm as surprised as you are that it is happening today. And I wonder if it was easier back in the day to rebuild the factory and start anew. Back then they just needed a house, some workbenches and some machines. Today I guess it's much, much more than that.

I read that they will continue to be in business and will restart producing furniture soon. Or parts. Seems as if the picture @mark737 posted doesn’t show all their premises.

@herringbone Yes, here's a shot that shows the aftermath. Looks like the buildings at top and left were saved. .
