I am posting because I have been given the opportunity to purchase an original egg chair. I have tried to confirm its authenticity by its known characteristics and dutifully tried to establish fair value...it is not a bargain and I want to make sure that I am not overpaying...happy to pay a fair price....well not happy because I love a bargain like the rest of ye but looking to pay in the fair market value range.

Amongst other sources I have gleaned from previous DA thread that the chair has the low position screw on the four star base...small feet, a fritz hansen silver label with the date 0663, no tilt mechanism, is hand stitched and has a cushion. It is vinyl which is kind of what is throwing me off. I, (somewhat predictably) prefer leather but understand re-upholstery is likely cost prohibitive with the hand stitched nature and so I am contemplating whether to hold off or whether really it is about the chair and what is likely a one time chance to get one locally. I would feel better about the investment if it was leather vs vinyl and wondering how much impact that has...ebay is all over the map with these...hard to establish

I was expecting a bigger chair...I guess it was just massive in my mind and think it looks large in pictures but really not that big ;)....
Anyway, i guess I was interested in opinions on the vinyl aspect? the no tilt aspect? and if anyone is willing...what would be a reasonable range to pay for this chair in your markets?
I appreciate any input, thanks for your time
stupidly, no pic of the front...just the base 😉

If it's not what you want
then a reasonable price would be $0. In my opinion.
As Niceguy is fond of reminding us, "They made more than one." Fritz Hansen has been producing those chairs non-stop for over 55 years; there are LOTS of them in the world, and sooner or later you'll find a leather one that you can afford, or find a chair with damaged fabric that's cheap enough to reupholster in leather.
Maybe you'll even have a flash of otherworldly good luck someday and, rather than wasting it on winning lottery numbers, use it to acquire an Egg and ottoman for $5:
