Leif, I think you're dead on. And: the wages in Japan appear to be only half as much as in Denmark.
@Ernest: have a look at http://files.onecollection.com/index.php
this is a collection of press material about the Finn Juhl reissues by onecollecion. Click "Finn Juhl" and "Films" and you will find three small films about the actual furniture production. They are very short but nevertheless you get an idea about what is going on there.

Here is a comment from Onecollection shedding light on the topic:
"House of Finn Juhl (Onecollection) tried a number of Danish companies but the suppliers demanded more than an order of 50-100 chairs from the small,young company. This was not a request that could be fulfilled, as the initial demand was expected to be low before rising as Finn Juhl became better known.

I live in Tokyo and recently I was at one of the shops that carries Onecollection. There were two Chieftians on display - one made of Maple and the other of Teak. The one made of teak cost 10% more. When I spoke to the staff there, she confirmed that they were made in Japan and was showing the list on all the items that are made in Japan. The complicated ones like the NV44, NV45, and the Chieftian requires a lot of handwork. Below is an article that has all the Finn Juhl stuff that is made in Japan (I thought the NV44 should have been on that list)

As mentioned in one of the earlier post, the other manufacturer of Finn Juhl's furniture in Japan is Kitani. They produce the FJ53 and it cost around US6k in Japan. I guess the license or rights to a particular model only allows one manufacturer to produce a certain model. One of my favourite is the SW87, I guess no one is manufacturing it now.

Thank you for the interesting information, and the article URL. The article states that Ivan Hansen found the Japanese woodworking firm in Yamagata, so I guess that would seem to confirm that Kitani is not the maker of OneCollection's products in Japan, which until now had been my assumption.
tchp
I thought it was Kitani too but (as you know) they are in Takayama . There is a video on youtube on the production of the FJ45 and you can tell that it is definitely Japan

There is also a Japanese dealer that highlighted the differences between the NV45 and OC45. Some pictures below. Left is OC45 and right is NV45
FJ49: The NV44 is not in production right now, that is why it's not on the list. As far as I know, Onecollection did produce it only once in 2012 in a limited edition of 100. They were auctioned at Bruun Rasmussen. For some reason you can also order them at Illums Bolighus f
