maybe designed for the altar of a church?
the general style makes me think of 'modern' church chairs.
Maybe these were modified for the priest? (hence the armrests)

Egon Eiermann
Hi there,
I think your chairs were designed by Egon Eiermann. Unfortunately I will not be able to look at my Egon Eiermann book for another 10 days, but I'll check it out in 10 days.
Yours Barry

Egon Eiermann
I have just looked in 'Egon Eiermann die Mobil' from Landesmususeum Karlsruhe,2000. The chair has been designed by Egon Eiermann. The model is a version of the 'SE 119A' 1958, with the same leather straps, back plate and legs. The picture in the book is finished in ratan. This was made by Wilde and Spieth, however a similar chair 'Model 686' was made by Thonet. i think its likely that your chair is by Wilde and Spieth.
