Hi - I am looking for some advice for cleaning my original saarinen tulip chairs. It was suggested to me by the Knoll company that I spray them with auto paint - but I feel that would diminish their value, since they are original. The finish is looking rather dingy and needs to be spruced up - any ideas would be helpful!

idk about cleaning but when...
idk about cleaning but when it comes to paint you can go to any auto paint supply shop, ( look around every town usually has one) never use rustoleum, auto paint is much stronger. they usually have cans of auto spray paint...its not as tuff as real auto paint but pretty good for a can.
costs the same as rustoleum and will last 10 years longer. if you are good with a can you will like the results...

My favorite cleaning product ...
My favorite cleaning product for anything painted is Auto Body Rubbing/Polishing compound. It is used to buff auto body paint, to bring back the shine and remove small scratches, but it also works as an effective cleaner, removing grime from painted surfaces without scratching the paint. Any auto supply store will have it. I have a couple of plastic tubs or "Turtle Wax" brand that have lasted me for years. I prefer the white stuff though, as it also comes in a sort of red-brown color.
