What about...
.
I have an American mid-century credenza of unknown origin. I have my CDs stored in DiscSox sleeves (because they're better than Case Logic- In addition to the CD and the cover, they also have a pocket for the back tray-card). My credenza has three drawers, just the right height to hold the DiscSox sleeves- in fact, to hold over 600 of them.
Maybe you could find a nice piece of well designed furniture with drawers of the right depth, and do the same.
I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but that's what works for me.
Best of luck.

Modernica's ESU series has...
Modernica's ESU series has drawers that allow you to make rows with removable pieces. they make a pretty perfect size to put in rows of CDs spine out. You can order an ESU with as many drawers as you like. That's what I would like ... one drawer olone could hold a ton!

good suggestion whitespike
.
When I got my DiscSox, I went to Canal Plastic (a plastic fabrication shop on Canal St., in Chinatown) and had divider slots fabricated from lucite to separate the CDs. If the manufacture makes them as an optional accessory, even better.

wall mounted shelves
hello CD -lover,
recently i found myself faced with a similar question: where to find nice cd- racks (for a whole lot of CD's ! :oD). i really like all the backs of my CD's on display, which makes browsing such a breeze. v nice when you're quickly trying to locate a CD to match your mood !
Since i don't have a lot of floor space to sacrifice, my search was limited to wall mounted stuff. really really liked barber osgerby's 'loop' shelves (for a picture, check eg the twentytwentyone site). unfortunately, these racks are rather costly & the shop is located in londen (whereas i'm based in belgium). however, found a somewhat similar design in white lackered steel in Antwerp (the shop was called 't Appartement' if i remember correctly). Sorry I don?t remember any more precise, but I didn?t stay to long in the shop as I wanted to remove myself quickly from the source of evil, since at the time I was rather heavily tempted by the nice Stelton range they had on display.
I am quite taken with the graphical design and the '70 space age' connotation of the shelves. You can buy as many shelves as you need to fit your whole CD collection (one shelf is 90 cm long/ 60cm for the smaller model, so you can work out how many CD's it can store). Perhaps better to buy some extra shelves (cd collections have that tendency to keep growing ;). The (temporarily) ?empty? spaces in my shelves now house my ?70 flip clock & a small taxidermist mouse (called SuSe). Grouped the shelves also make a nice feature out of your wall.
good luck on your search !
