Hi Maniq -
Since no one...
Hi Maniq -
Since no one else has answered, I'll take a try.
Howard Miller quit producing these in the 1970's. From what I've read HM contracted production to a local factory in Zeeland/Grand Rapids area. Apparently that factory still operates today and the equipment still existed, so Modernica contacted them and had the bubble lamps put back into production in the late 1990 (I believe 98 or 99). While they are not officially recognized by the Nelson estate, or properly licensed, they are made the same and with the same tooling in the same factory and Modernica is the only ones doing it...So take what you will from that.

Also,
I've never heard of anyone from the Nelson Estate trying to stop Modernica selling these lamps.
And....many Herman Miller dealers (Highbrow, Utica, Sax Flax, Hive Modern, etc.) carry the Modernica Bubble lamps while not carrying some of their furniture which is not liscensed.

thanks barry and reactcreative
so i guess, my next question is, is it worth it to acquire a modernica piece? would this be considered authentic 10 to 50 years from now hence keeping it's value?

Hard to tell regarding the value
of Modernica bubble lamps, but I've heard that they have stronger white plastic material around the frames.

I have both.
And both are very well made. For some reason, i like the original material.
More transparent and parchment in quality.
They may have suffered from the
heat of the incandescent bulb over the years but it is different.
(the vintage ones can be very brittle).
The original owner of my home had some higher wattage bulbs in mine
that were not so safe. I'm surprised the house is still standing.
You will not be buying a cheap knock-off by choosing a new Modernica
version. It is not much money to spend at all.
Not sure if i would consider it an investment, but not a loss?
The market is a bit flooded with them.
If you like the style it is a good purchase.

modernica has a licence ...
modernica has a licence from the George Nelson estate , it states it on the box
. The Lamp is the highest quality and used in some of the finest buildings in the United States, far better than the torn worn out Howard miller lamps of the 50's 60's 70's . I have both in my home and have nothing but praise for the Modrnica lamps and never looked at it as a knockoff.

"10 to 50 years from now"?
Maniqz: The old Howard Miller lamps appear on Ebay periodically. They never sell for more than the cost of a brand-new Modernica lamp, so I wouldn't worry too much about whether the Modernica lamps are "authentic" enough to retain their value as well as the HM lamps have.
Besides... 10 to 50 years from now, your bubble lamp will in all likelihood be long gone, thrown out after you or one of your kids accidentally dent or tear it.
