I live in Toowoomba yes, even though there is a horrible drought its still Gods country in my humble opinion, the people are friendly (though conservative) the magnolias are flowering and the vintage furniture is a delight.
Got the Brno and the magnet stuck but I'm still fairly happy, my god its big and heavy though, its almost the size of my Aarnio armchairs and I had trouble lifting it over my head to get it out of the shop. On my way home I got this mint Braun shaver which I'm super happy with too, I only realised on my way home that my guilt over not being able to afford to support charities was unfounded, I've been giving charity goods shops wads of cash for years.
Thanks for the posts about the Brno, one more question which will show me up as being obsessive does any one else um er um give names to their furniture?

for some reason the public and the manufactures named the chairs The designers gave them numbers
Saarine did name his chair Womb cause he felt it was like being in the womb very secure.

ah that was a good hit, the Brno now sits at my desk and we listened to a Phillip Glass CD this morning. I've found a good cheap leather conditioner which worked a treat, just cheap sorbolene cream from the supermarket.
I was reading up on Mies last night and found a few images with interesting things in the background, tubular Tugendhat chairs etc. Is anyone making this more obscure stuff that was produced for the house?

I've only been back here for 6 months but from what I can tell there is a fair amount of Danish teak and some good 70/80's commercial stuff from foyers and boardrooms, thats the imported stuff. No Eames etc to be seen as yet.
Vintage Australian designers? There are only a few that are collectable here. Google image search "Grant Featherston", "Tessa Lowen", "Douglas Snelling", "Clement Meadmore" (all prefixed by "design") and you should get the idea. There are some other very collectable craftsman made pieces but the names escape me.
I once found a Wegner Dining suite but it had been sold...for $75, I'm still furious 6 years later.
I don't know if that chair...
I don't know if that chair is still in the knoll line I saw a set at auction and they were very expensive ,for those not familiar here is a write up The Tugendhat chair (model number MR70) is a modernist cantilever chair designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929-1930 for the Tugendhat House in Brno, Czechoslovakia.
In appearance, the Tugendhat chair is somewhat of a hybrid of Mies van der Rohe's 1929 Barcelona chair and 1929-1930 Brno chair. Like the Barcelona chair, the Tugendhat chair has a large padded leather seat and back, supported by leather straps mounted on a steel frame and legs. However, like one variant of the Brno chair, the frame is flat solid steel, formed under into a C-shape under the seat to create a cantilever. Versions exist with or without leather-padded steel arms. The metal was originally polished stainless steel; modern examples are often chrome-plated.
Phillip Johnson had a set at his house as well as Mies in his home , (why not he could have what ever he wanted )
