I hope Patrick and Alix don't mind this one :), its kinda design related.

I saw a doco on an artist who was taking blown glass forms and swilling a silver nitrate substance inisde them and pouring it out and was left with perfect bulbous mirrors which he assembled in a flat mirror lined environment in a gallery, it was pretty spectacular. I think he was an American, thats all I know.

Anyone got any ideas? I've searched and searched.

is one of my personal heroes for my medium. he is almost alone among people who work primarily with glass to acheive widespread recognition as a contemporary artist. my medium is very bogged down with the craft side of things, and precious few have distinguished themselves as he has. specific to D.A. folks, his work often deals with questions about what it means to be a modern person and he references classic modern design in some pieces. as for the mirroring, it is a fairly common technique among glass folk, it is just his prominence that brought it to your attention. the piece you reference is in milwaukee wi. i have seen it in person and it is spectacular.

Hi Glassartist thanks so much for the reply, would you have a simple recipe (metric if possible) for the nitrate solution and any info on how to go about getting the chemicals?

mirroring
here is the website where there is the solutions most folks i know use. there are great downloadable instructions that cover the whole range of mirroring options. ive had less luck finding the recipe you wanted. i think it is like my quest to bake my own crackers. people just buy it pre made and generally dont make their own.
