i bought two of these aj floor lamps off ebay, but they have been butchered by being badly resprayed in a high gloss, i started stripping the white off to reveal a beautiful matt black, but the condition of the black is not good, does anyone know what the original finish is (powder coated or painted) and whether it is possible to refinish them, i took them to a car resprayer but he is not able to recreate that wonderful matt finish, if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated,

Not sure on the original...
Not sure on the original finish but you can get a matt finish with powdercoat, ( I had my car wheels done in this finish a few years back) look through your local yellow pages and ring round a few places and see if they can do it, be very careful to remove anything that can melt it gets pretty hot in those ovens!
Also you can get a matt finish with stove enamelling
Finally you can get matt / satin finish paints in rattle cans if you want to go down the DIY route, I would try a few car body shops matt finish paints are very popular in the custom car world so it?s definitely do-able
Best of luck there a fantastic light I'm extremely jealous! 🙂

I think they're more like a semi-matt 40-50% shine. This is good news as gloss black is the most unforgiving finish of all. You could achieve a very near match with a satin black aerosol paint - use primer first, rub down between coats, cut back with t-cut or similar to finish. It won't be an exact match but with patience and care you can get a very good finish.
