Eye for an Eye..... A Tooth for a Tooth
Hi Simon E bay pulled 6 of my items last week including a Metal Desk with Linoleum Top!..They said it breached their "Hazardous Items Policy"..I read this and there is nothing about furniture in this category. A few days ago they pulled 15 items mostly Leather stuff and mentioned Trading Standards in the reason aswell as Hazardous goods.
I've had numerous item pulled...
All fabric upholstery - not leather. The reasons given were keyword spamming - 'Eames Era', 'Danish' etc as Ebay felt uncomfortable about removing them because of the fabric/fire issue. One time it was due to 'no business address' being listed - yet it WAS listed so I received an ebay apology! Shortly after xxx reported my listing for using the word 'Eames' they stopped using the word 'Eames' in all of their listings just to comply. Ridiculous. This isn't a coincidence as ALL the items were 1960s fabric upholstery - def reported by xxx. It's basically a form of bullying and Ebay are supporting it. Bear in mind that Sworders (a large auction house near Stansted) sell lots of original 50s 60s and 70s furniture/upholstery. In the very back of their catalogues in very small print, it states that the items are sold as objects of art and are not intended for domestic use. If they can sell it, SURELY small ebay traders can do the same? Makes no sense...

auctioneers
ebay sellers, shops anyone trading as a business.
xxx included are BANNED from selling any upholstered furniture that does not comply fully with the UK furniture fire safety regulations of 1988.
it is completely illegal to trade in any furniture UNless it has been produced to meet the UK fire regs or re-upholstered in materials compliant to the regulations.
As they stand the cut off date is 1st. Jan 1950.
this is what is so ridiculous. the regs were back dated because of preassure from a single fire officer, Vita foam and the assiciation or master upholstrers. No one else was consulted and the firs regulations did NOT include second-hand furniture but the amended version 1988 DID without any consultation or publication.

Apparently I'm a potential murderer....
I've had three shrill, bordering on the hysterical emails this week from unicornsdoexist - aka xxx, practically accusing me of wanting to kill my customers! It has gone strangely quiet since I replied telling them I knew who they really were. My auctions didn't get pulled but I think that's only because Ebay can be a bit slow sometimes. Their total hypocrisy really sticks in my throat. Of course, I will be returning the favour as will family and friends!

another hassled dealer
I just wanted to say that I too have items removed by ebay in the past for spam wording and discovered that the person doing the reporting was the talked about Angel. (they admitted it to me!!!). Its been quite shocking to see that they are still doing this to other dealers and now with threats of Fire Regs. It is extremely sad, bitter and very disheartening. I am glad that they have been named and shamed.
This is what they have wrote on one of their descriptions for an item.. I mean pleasssssee... Its pathetic...
"This is the second time we have had this particular DeSede, about 4 years ago we bought three pieces of it (two ends & a middle) off a dealer at a very cold winter Swinderby (those were the days!!) then sold it three hours later to a London dealer who spotted it when we were organising our van. He begged it from us, we let him off £25 as he said he wouldn't be able to get home , next time we saw him at Kempton, he'd sold it and for a very good profit!!
Anyway - that was then - this is now...this one is just brilliant, fantastic, gorgeous..if we didn't have to sell furniture to pay our bills, any three of us would keep it.
Snap!
Had exactly the same scenario. I made it clear that I knew who they were and they wanted me to ring them and have a chat about it as I needed to take responsibility for my actions and how could I sleep at night etc etc. Hilarious. I think she may have a rare and concentrated form of fire and safety regulations OCD. I reminded her that she sold me an original upholstery covered 70s sofa at an antiques fair and told me that I would get away with selling it on Ebay as a smaller dealer but she couldn't as she owned a shop. She assured me it would be fine for me to sell it with original covers and that she could pass other such items on to me. Such a shame as I'm sure she's a nice enough women - just a little obsessed with the matter and not keen on competition I guess. Maybe she's reading this and can see the error of her ways...Let's hope :o)
CYBER BOGEYS
I will now spend any spare minutes I have battering their business as they have mine.. I have given up picking my nose, to flick my cyber bogeys there way...I am retiring from the business because quite frankly these lot have sickened me to the point where I don't enjoy it anymore. I swear they will be paying for what they have done to me and many many others.
